Moving Right Along…

Folks aren’t exactly rushing to their computers to order Silent Warriors, and sales have been admittedly slow.  Part of the problem is that when one Google’s “Silent Warriors” you get a plethora of titles, none of which includes my opus.  Only “Silent Warriors Submarine” will bring up my book (assuming, of course, that you were searching for it to begin with).  Of course, hitting up this website will provide you with a direct link to the book on Amazon anytime.

I also have a second novel in the works: Operation Exodus.  In this book, the main character is Jacob Joseph Lawlor, Jr., the grandson of  Silent Warriors’s submarine skipper.  Jake, a Navy Seal, is tasked with rescuing six missionaries who are being held on trumped-up charges in the Islamic Republic of Iran.  Look for Operation Exodus sometime this coming Spring.

Still no Facebook account.  No response whatever to my emails or snail mail appeal.  Guess the folks there follow the Golden Rule: “It’s them with the gold what makes the rules.”  Meanwhile, you can always follow me on Twitter (link below) or on Linkedin at https://www.linkedin.com/in/gene-masters-784464170/ .

A Good Review Is a Beautiful Thing!

One of the things an author does before his book comes out is to send proof copies of the book to any interested parties, have them read it, and ask for a review.  Yesterday, Jim Henkel, a fellow submarine service veteran, sent me this:

“I just finished Silent Warriors.  I found the novel very enjoyable and was always looking forward to the next war patrol for Orca.  The commanding officer, Jake Lawlor, is everything I would have expected from a WWII submarine captain.  He was cool, courageous, and enterprising in the face of terrible odds early in the war.

“I am a retired nuclear submariner and although I never sailed on a diesel boat, I could sense the crew’s tension during depth charging and the restrained elation after a torpedo kill. I am going to pass the book on to my son, a Lieutenant currently serving in the submarine force.”

Jim is a retired Navy Lieutenant Commander, and served aboard the nuclear submarines USS Archerfish (SSN 678), and USS Dallas (SSN 700).

Permission to Come Aboard!

Whenever boarding a United States Naval vessel, the custom is to, first, salute the flag, then salute the quarterdeck, and finally to ask the Officer of the Deck for permission to come aboard.

Well, you certainly do have permission to come aboard, and welcome.

I am still absorbing the excitement of publishing my first book, entitled Silent Warriors: Submarine Warfare in the Pacific, being released on October 1, 2018, by Escarpment Press.  The novel tells the story of Jake Lawlor, a naval officer who, at the outbreak of WWII, is executive officer aboard the USS S-49, an aged and antique submarine stationed in the Philippines.  When S-49 is lost to a freak mid-sea grounding, Jake assumes command of a new fleet boat, the USS Orca, being built in Groton, CT.  The novel subsequently follows Jake and the Orca through eleven war patrols, and on to the end of the war and final victory.  Along the way, lives are lost, battles are fought and won, loves are lost and found, and real-life heroes are introduced.

I hope you’ll find Silent Warriors a good read, a story both informative and entertaining.  At the very least, you will probably find yourself learning more about the workings of a WWII Gato-class diesel electric submarine than you ever thought possible!  Silent Warriors is currently available for pre-order for Kindle on Amazon.com (only $2.99) and as an ebook from all the usual ebook outlets like Kobo, iBooks, Barnes & Noble, etc.  In addition to ebook, it will also be available in both regular and large print paperback editions on Oct. 1st from Amazon.com.

I hope you’ll pre-order your copy of Silent Warriors today, and, when you’ve finished reading it,  post a glowing review.  After all, reviews are the lifeblood authors rely upon for their literary success.  Thanks in advance for yours.
